Enlistments Shrink Induction Pool says Rhode Island Recruiting
Major General Lewis B Hershey stated calls are hard to fill due to many registrants joining the Regular Army. Major Joseph L Sullivan reports Rhode Island and southern Massachusetts registrants prefer definite 18 month to 3 year terms, reducing pools for Selective Service. The Regular Army also offers branch and theater choice for 3 year enrollments, unlike indeterminate wartime service. Only men without induction orders may join the Regular Army.
