Bulldozer Blade Fatality Shocks Local Community

Giovanni Benigno 25 was crushed beneath a hydraulic bulldozer blade while attaching small cutter blades at Bayside Shores Development near Defiance Fire Station. The Bristol police and state troopers investigated. Benigno, a C Brito & Son Construction worker, leaves a widow and two year old daughter. Funeral planned in Brooklyn.

Bus Fare Increase Discussed by Town Council Head

Rear Admiral Gilbert C Hoover, president of the Town Council, announced a meeting tonight at Warren Town Hall to discuss a proposed five cent fare increase on the Providence Warren Bristol bus line of the New England Transportation Company. The Public Service Commission, chaired by Adm Hoover, will review the tariff filed last Friday with the state utilities board, with changes set to take effect March 15.

Canon Davis Heads Drive For Red Cross Roll Call

Canon Daniel K. Davis rector of St. Michael's Church is general chairman of the annual Red Cross Roll Call campaign running March 1 through March 16. Mrs. Raymond S Brightman executive secretary said Davis will name other officials and helpers soon. Red Cross headquarters during the drive will be in the Holmes House on Hope Street.

Town Council Defers Bid for Town Engineer

The Town Council postponed action on civil engineer Joseph G. Riccio to serve as engineering consultant at 1800 dollars yearly part time or 3000 dollars yearly full time until Council member Paul Herzig returns from Venezuela. Riccio previously offered 1500 dollars part time. he seeks extra funds to cover help and materials and proposes to continue private practice when not interfering with town duties.

Oil Heater Fire in Tenement on Richmond Street

A space heater overflow caused an explosion and fire on the third floor of a Richmond Street tenement. Four volunteer fire companies battled the blaze with booster lines. Mr Arruda and his brother-in-law rescued two young sons, while other family members escaped. Damages affected the second and third floors of the Meyer Paley owned building.

Mrs. Maude Holbrook 52 of 132 Hope Street and Gerald Robinson son of Mr and Mrs Joseph Robinson of Bayberry Farm Poppa squash sustained cuts and bruises when their car slid on ice on Metacom Avenue near Gooding Avenue. Operator Stanley Dean 19 and Mrs Ida Dean of 132 Hope Street were uninjured. Mrs Holbrook later taken to Rhode Island Hospital for observation after returning from a Providence State Providence College basketball game at the Auditorium.
