Church Chosen Head of Philatelic Society

John W Church town clerk was elected president of the Bristol Philatelic Society at its monthly meeting last Thursday evening in the Holmes House. He succeeds Ven Anthony R Parshley archdeacon of the Episcopal Diocese of RI and founder of the club who resigned due to duties. Walter H Angell led a stamp quiz with 15 questions per contestant. Prizes went to Edward Silvia with 13 correct and to Elwin A Hill and Carl H Witherell.

Bristol K of C Appoints Panels for Communion Breakfast

At the Bristol Council meeting Deputy Grand Knight Anthony Da Ponte was named chairman of the committee to arrange a communion breakfast on Passion Sunday March 14. Plans were reviewed for the Council’s 50th anniversary next November with all past grand knights on the arrangements. Anthony W DuPont was elected chairman of the carnival committee to be held in June.

The National Commander of the American Legion James F O Neil will visit Bristol on Thursday en route from Newport to the Rhode Island Soldiers Home. He will arrive around 3 30 pm at Mount Hope Bridge, be greeted by Kearney Post Legionaires, tour Hope Street to the Legion Home, then visit the Soldiers Home before a testimonial dinner in Providence. Bristol Highway Budget Plan Seeks 1948 Increase

The Bristol Public Works Department requests a total budget of 47,307.55 for 1948 an increase of about 12,700 from last year to cover salaries materials labor and operating costs. It details pay raises for five staff positions and costs for equipment repairs new trucks plowing and curb work with specific allocations for snow removal mosquito control cement sidewalk and postwar construction accounts.

Bristol Fire Department Budget Request Milestone in 1948

The Bristol Fire Department asked the Budget Committee to approve a 1948 budget of 22280 dollars, more than double last year. Increases cover repairs to fire stations, about 1500 dollars for officials pay, and enforcement of the new fire prevention ordinance. The Sewer Commission will meet with the Budget Committee this evening.
