Three Stand Alone System Defeats Coordinator Motion
The Bristol charter commission voted 5 to 3 against granting the town council authority to appoint an executive officer and 5 to 3 for three departments whose heads report to the town council with no coordinator. Critics Canario Pierce and Martin urged an executive officer for efficiency, while supporters noted existing practice and proposed department heads under council control. The panel also set a budget committee term plan and debated police and fire department reporting lines.
