Heaviest Ice In Bristol Bay Since 1947 48
The Bristol Coast Guard Depot mobilized all resources to free the bay and its inlets from the heaviest ice in a decade. The 64 foot harbor tug and two depots tugs opened channels from East Greenwich Bay through Mt Hope Bay while ice stretches to Hog Island. Ice depths reached nine inches in East Greenwich Bay and five inches in Bristol Harbor. The situation mirrors the 1947 48 winter but is not as severe as earlier eras.
