Island fire department gets surplus war truck
Prudence Island's fire and police chief Norman C. Farnham leads the department in adapting a Navy air base crash rescue truck bought from Providence. The 18 members retrofit it with fog extinguishing gear, Indian pumps, and carbon dioxide extinguishers for island use. The town funds the basic upkeep, with extra support from island residents and the Red Cross.
