Pilgrim Virtue Statue Makes 2nd Visit To Town
A Pilgrim Virtue statue tour stop drew a near full church for veneration at Our Lady of Mount Carmel yesterday at noon despite chilly winds. Benediction closed services led by Rev. Joseph Orzano with Msgr. William McGrath presiding. Parishioners touched the statue at the altar as others stood in the crowd. The statue had visited Elizabeth's Church earlier and was brought by Mary Pelland Christine Rich Mary Vescera and Christine Cortelleas. Recited rosary opened the worship, and Fr. Esmond Stringer delivered the sermon on the statue’s tour. The town raised funds at a meeting and $9,789 was appropriated for priests’ accompanying costs, plus $5,000 in an additional sermon allocation.

All Night Fire Crew Responds Rapidly To Chimney Fire
Bristol fire crews on all four stations stayed on duty through one of the coldest windy nights. Chief Robert J Anderson bunked at Hydraulion Station as a general alarm answered for a chimney fire at Eagle Bar 171 Bradford Street just after 9 pm. Oil burner flames sent embers up the chimney but the blaze was controlled quickly in near zero weather with minimal damage.
