Bristol School Committee reports FY end with 722.56 net
At a Wednesday meeting in Colt Memorial School library, Supt Edward J. Fitzgerald announced the school department ended the year with a net balance of 722.56 dollars. Receipts totaled 262,728.09, 136.09 over estimates, while expenditures were 262,059.53. state transportation aid was 302 short and dog tax receipts were 153 due to damages. Prices rose for fuel with oil up to 12.7 cents per gallon and coal to 12.19 per ton. Savings came from janitors' supplies, reduced textbooks, and cuts to the evening program. Expenditures totaled 18,959.32 and 3,480.63 from special funds leaving balances of 6,469.99 and 5,931.81. The committee asked for 1,500 for teachers' retirement and authorized state salary grants. Other actions included permitting the Class of 1948 to use Colt Auditorium for operetta, awarding a printing contract for 400 annual reports, and purchasing a Monroe calculating machine for 360.
