A barn and wagon shed at The Mount on the old DeWolf estate along DeWolf Avenue burned Friday night around 9 oclock. Water from a well proved little help as boosters failed to halt the blaze, which destroyed much of the structure and its contents. Owner Nicholas Orteleva of Providence reported the loss. Joseph Ciaburri said a passerby alerted him to the fire. The building was part of the historic DeWolf estate once famous as a show place and home to notable entertaining with stored DeWolf carriages.
Pupils of Grade 9A at Crunteras School presented a Lincoln Day program during weekly exercises Friday afternoon. The one act play Abraham Lincoln Rat Splitter directed by Miss Mary M Connors featured William Massano, Meredith Hawes, Joseph Connery, Mary Gallagher, Frelyn Weaver, Nathan Fisenstadt, Kathleen White, Domenick Antinuce, John Tufarolo, Serren o Perrone.
St Raphael Academy of Pawtucket faced Colt Memorial High School in a Friday night game at St Raphael gym. McLaughlin led St Raphael with five field goals and a foul shot for 11 points as Colt kept pace early, but St Raphael pulled away to win 23 to 15 with Biancuzzo as Colt’s top scorer.
Joseph Cabral pleaded guilty to larceny of a lantern from Bristol County Gas and Electric Company and was fined ten dollars plus costs. Arraignments included Fortuna to Abate on breaking and entering and larceny from stores. Civil actions saw Taplin v Ferrara for one hundred fifty seven dollars, and continuances in Vermette Bros v Castiglico and Magnuson Products v Gardiner West. Martins v Bowen defaulted.
