Democrats Nominate For Town Officers

The Democratic caucus to nominate town officers for the March 11 election met at the Bristol Train of Artillery armory with a small turnout. Nominees included Edward L Leahy as moderator and John W Church as Town Clerk, with a slate that also named Daniel W Coggeshall James Holmes John Romano and Anthony J Nunes for various posts.

Town Council Prepares Part of 1931 Budget

The Town Council adjourned last evening after selecting 32 appropriations for the 1931 budget and planning to finalize recommendations at a March 16 financial town meeting. They increased two relief items, discontinued four, and recommended a $17,500 sinking fund reduction. Several line items were trimmed or omitted including a $1000 Children’s Home appropriation and interest on sewer notes and bonds.

Washington Birthday Observance and Holiday Closings

Community notices mark Washington's Birthday observance with Monday holiday closures for schools banks and town offices. Bristol D A R hosts Guest Day with an address by John W Hales and patriotic program plus tea social. Boxing entertainment supports a factory relief fund. Washington Ball of the Bristol Train of Artillery Tonight

The 83d annual Washington Ball at the State Armory Bristol, at foot of Church Street, draws hundreds of Bristolians with state officials and Guards officers attending amid colorfully decorated interiors, concert by the Trams band, Harold Sheffers orchestra, and a grand march opening the dances. Second Presentation of Opera Pinafore Delights Local Audience

Another well pleased audience attended the second performance of Gilbert and Sullivan's comic opera Pinafore under the auspices of Kearney Unit Ladies' Auxiliary. In the C Guiteras School auditorium Tuesday evening those who attended praised the production and the cast and chorus, director, and all who assisted.

Founders Day observance by Bristol PTA at Colt High School

The Bristol PTA marked the 34th anniversary of the National PTA with a program at Colt High School featuring 37 Guiteras School girls in white with blue and gold bands, led by Miss Persis M Dolloff. Virginia Scott presented a birthday cake as girls recited lines about mothers, then Mrs Nathaniel White spoke on Food Habits and PTA history.

Public Patriotic Program at Colt Memorial High School

Bristol Rotary Club sponsors a Sunday 8 pm public observance of Washington and Lincoln birthdays at Colt Memorial High School auditorium. Butterfly Seized in Snow Storm at Wilbur Residence

A yellow and white butterfly appeared at 46 Constitution Street in the morning snow and was captured by Mrs. Wilbur in a cage at the Wilbur home. The unusual visitor arrived as spring was proclaimed nearby, bafflingly amid wintry weather.
