Bank Official Says Government Can Inflate Currency

Ralph W. Childs of the Industrial Trust Company Bristol Branch told Rotary Club that the government could inflate the currency by eleven billion dollars using gold revaluation. He argued higher gold prices raise prices broadly, benefit debtors and bondholders, and could return the country to a stabilized dollar with strategic gold reserves.

Lee School Pupils Stage Musical Entertainment

Supper Dance and Entertainment at N I R

About 150 persons attended a National India Rubber Company supper dance in the recreation hall last night. A one act play The Farmer's Daughter directed by Mrs Lucy Pannone featured James Salzano Etta Ruggeri and Lawrence Ascoli with a farmer chorus and another chorus of farmers. Specialties were performed by local artists and a buffet luncheon followed. Music for dancing was by Vernie Munro and his orchestra.

Preparations for 86th Washington Ball in Bristol

The Bristol Train of Artillery plans the 86th Washington Ball at the Bristol Casino on February 21 inviting Gov. Theodore Francis Green and staff along with Rhode Island officials. Tickets are limited to 75 couples with an 8 to 9 pm concert, grand march, dancing until 2 am and a chicken salad supper during intermission.

Former President Magee Doles Out Ridiculous Rotary Night

Former Rotary president John R Magee led a humorous meeting at Hotel Belvedere as four new members joined. Magee recalled calling order with a silver knife and glass tumbler in 1931, while others teased and shared anecdotes about past years. The gathering included a singalong, jokes about Europe, and a talk by Ralph W Childs on banking. The foursome praised the club’s spirited, instructional luncheon and speaker sessions, noting perfect attendance for the third time in a month.

National India Rubber Company led by Jimmie Sullivan defeating Olympian Club 35 to 15 in a fast paced game. Leclerc Lemaire Borges and Ferreira led scorers with strong first half and second half subs maintaining the lead. Battery C and BTA also posted scores in the night program. James Lanzke announced next games moved to Friday for Washington's Birthday.

Hydes Fire Truck Replacement Plan Revealed

Frank J. Rinaldi says the Hydraulion Engine and Hose Company may get a new triple combination 1000 gallon pumper. The proposal will go to the Town Council and Budget Committee for joint recommendation to taxpayers at the March financial town meeting. The old Hydraulion truck, bought January 15, 1917, is a 540 gallon unit in poor, frequently unreliable condition.
