A town council initiative directs 966 veterans home from World War II to join a Monday 8 pm meeting at Reynolds School to decide whether the $10 000 Welcome Home appropriation should fund a celebration or a living memorial. Attendees may suggest a cash bonus per veteran or a communal event.
Hubert F. Hill resigns as general secretary of the Bristol YMCA effective April 1 to take a similar post in Wakefield Massachusetts. Since May 1 1942 he led Bristol YMCA efforts including supervised summer recreation and the Beach Committee, served on multiple civic committees, and helped establish a USC center during the war.
More than 500 reservations are set for the 25th Anniversary Camp Hoffman dinner at the Narragansett Hotel to launch the Camp Hoffman campaign. Bristol attendees include Mr. and Mrs. John D. Moore and several local residents.

Married with two daughters, he oversaw YMCA upgrades including the Haffenreffer Room and gymnasium modernization during three years at the local Y.
Bristol Boy Scouts will run a townwide paper drive Sunday starting at 12:30 p.m. Teams cover six districts from Franklin Street yard and weigh on the N Y N H rail freight yard. Proceeds support troop equipment and treasuries. If rain, action postponed to next Sunday.

Poultry enthusiasts witnessed a new breed called Frizzle Polish unveiled by John Kriner of Stetlersville Pa. There are about twenty birds, created by breeding and cross breeding. The birds have a bald head, a drooping forelock that hides their eyes, and are described as unique looking though hens are generally slow and may be less aware of surroundings. The Frizzle Polish lays eggs like other hens and may resemble ordinary chickens when cooked.
In New York Dr. Charles E. Funk editor in chief of Funk and Wagnalls Standard dictionary weighs in on choosing a criterion for George Bernard Shaw's proposed simplified pronunciation. The dispute centers on whether the new language should adopt Ant sounds as rule.

He cites Shaw to illustrate that pronunciations vary by region from Jawj Bunnad Shaw to Joj Bunad Shaw, making glossaries essential for mutual understanding.
