Battery C Inspected by High Officials
The 243rd Coast Artillery Battery C of the R I N G underwent federal and regimental inspections Tuesday evening at the armory foot of Church street. Lieut. Col. Earl C. Webster led the regimental review with Majors Arthur E. Rowland and Marvil G. Armstrong assisting on the federal side. The inspection covered artillery, administration, riot duty, property and ordnance, infantry, guard duty and first aid, with detailed drills led by Capt. A A. Moren and lieutenants Garvin Randall. The firing platoon was commanded by Corp. Eugene Moura and plotting by Sergt. Ascioli, as First Sergt. Manuel Morris led office work. Major Rowland offered improvements. the battery received high praise from Webster. Webster’s staff included Majors John Toohey and Ernest Moore, Capt. Harold I. Riley, and Lieuts. Ray Wilmarth, Edward L. Walker and Wm. V. Mason.
