Bristol Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution hosts a Monday afternoon meeting at 56 Franklin Street with a shower for Ellis Island station and Rev. Anthony R. Parshley speaking on autographs. Hostesses include Mrs. Easterbrooks and others, followed by Washington's Birthday observance February 23 at the Hotel Belvedere with Rhode Island Historian John W. Haley presenting Land of Roger Williams, plus instrumental and vocal selections and a social period.

Basketball Benefit Game for Community Relief Fund

A benefit basketball game is set for next Wednesday evening February 11 between the Olympians of the YMCA and St Martins of Providence. The Olympians boast a fast season and the St Martins lineup includes several of the state’s fastest semi pro players. A preliminary game will precede the main event.

Town Council Urges Small Appropriations for Year

At the regular monthly meeting the council asked departments to submit minimal funding due to financial strains. They considered pulmotors for emergencies, renewed several milk licenses, and authorized sewer bond renewal. The body also granted event permits and noted cemetery maintenance expenditures totaling 1,193.46.

Political Committees Arrange Caucuses For Town Officers

The Democratic Town Committee met at the Hotel Belvedere to discuss filing candidates for town offices next Monday February 9. The Republican Town Committee will convene tonight to hear its interview panel report. Democratic and Republican caucuses are slated for February 18 and 20 respectively. Richard Burke was elected president of the Democratic Club with Thomas B Lavey as secretary and Thomas M McGrath as treasurer. J Francis McGrath addressed the meeting.

Bristol Branch of the American Red Cross reports total donations for drought relief at 551.31 dollars, with prior gifts listed including Miss H. B. Barns 50 dollars and multiple anonymous contributions, credited from Providence Chapter. The drive has drawn steady gifts over recent days.

The National India Rubber Co. basketball team travels to East Providence tomorrow to face the Fast Providence Town Team in Central Junior High School gym. Providence Townies, riding a three game win streak including victories over the Olympians and Gallahads, promise strong opposition. A 8 pm tip-off precedes the senior Boys' Club game.

The Bristol Rotary Club sponsors Cabaret de Paris on Wednesday and Thursday at the Naval Armory to benefit the Student Loan Fund. The venue will resemble a Paris nightclub with dimmed lighting, artistic stage setup, French costumes, and tables arranged for dancing.
