Bristol Town Council receives first report from new Police Chief
At Tuesday evening’s semi monthly meeting Bristol Chief of Police Richard J Kavanaugh presented his first monthly report since taking office January 1 1927. He noted ongoing work planning future police services under new ordinances and pledged cooperation from permanent officers to improve public security and town conditions. He reported January arrests include 21 total with several traffic offenses drunkenness and fugitive from justice. Twenty two store doors were found open and secured by police and five of eight officers have used 24 hour duty allowances while noting funding from 1926 town meeting remains in effect.

Bristol volunteer firemen were honored for the lighter fire near the ferry slip as Roy Beattie of Fall River sent 150 to be shared by three companies. Joseph Paul received a gold watch fob from Pleasant Ready Engine and Hose Company. Defiance Hose officers were announced. Dreadnaught Hook ladder and Hose named new honorary Gerald Braunell. An entertainment committee planned future events and members endorsed a bill to raise firefighter death benefits from 200 to 1000.
