Witham F Peters a local native and former dix goods merchant was found dead in a Newark New Jersey boarding house kitchen after a gas incident. Six notes on the door warned against lighting matches and mention a family estate dispute. Peters left clues of prior work in Boston Provo Providence New York and other cities. In the Fifth District Court Judge Frank H Hammill heard pleas from John Marino admitting guilt to possessing intoxicating liquor with a $100 fine. Joseph Perry also pleaded guilty to operating a vehicle under the influence and was fined $100.
