Anna M Narrowly Balks Island Run On Ice Cursed Weekend
The Anna M of the Prudence Island Navigating Co failed to reach the island for the first time in six years due to harbor ice from two to seven inches thick and frigid weather. A 7 am Saturday crossing reached the island but returned after four hours with six inch ice near the Middle Buoy. Sunday’s 10 am trip was canceled after the boat struggled about 30 feet from the dock. A Coast Guard icebreaker cleared the harbor Monday enabling a morning run, while islanders postponed grocery trips awaiting the ice to melt.
