History of Red Cross Seals and per capita Rhode Island lead
Rhode Island continues to lead the nation in per capita Red Cross seal sales as December opens, with Wallace Hatch predicting Rhode Island will secure the top national spot again. The history traces charity stamps to Civil War era “charity stamps” and notes global use, Nordic origins, and early tuberculosis campaigns culminating in a national Red Cross Tuberculosis Stamp drive that raised substantial funds and aims for one million in year sales.
