History of Silver Creek Reviewed by Bristol Historical Society

Rev. James DeWolf Perry Jr. presented a 265 year sketch of Silver Creek Bristol's oldest house at Holmes House. He traced owners from Deacon Nathaniel Bosworth built in 1680, noted its role as a religious and educational site, and recounted cannonball evidence from the Revolutionary War. Four new members joined the society and sympathy extended to treasurer Robert Connery.

Catholic Churches Rally Food Drive Across Three Parishes

Clergy from St. Marys St Elizabeths and Our Lady of Mount Carmel urged parishioners to donate canned foods for Europe via a National Catholic War Relief Agency campaign. St Marys and St Elizabeths will collect in church and parish hall respectively while Mount Carmel conducted a special collection for the war needy.

Box For Immigrants To Be Packed By Society

The Pro Christo Society of the First Congregational Church will send its yearly Christmas box for immigrants at Ellis Island. Clothing, books, toys, writing and sewing materials are welcomed. The box will be packed at the Guiteras House on the 18th with contributions accepted until then. Monetary gifts may be left with Mrs Arthur Rae or Mrs Henry L Sanford.

Vets To Receive 15 Books From Bristol Buddy Fund

Three Bristol hospitalized veterans will each receive 15 books from the Literary Guild selections. Funds come from the Bristol Buddy Bundles Fund, with purchases arranged by Frederick T. Goff and cooperation from The Boston Store Providence. Books include Green Dolphin Street and Captain From Castile among others.

Sewer Department Busy Pumping Flooded Cellars After Rain

Anthony W. DuPont, chairman of the Sewer Commission, said heavy rainstorms dumped 259 inches of rain and have kept crews pumping out flooded cellars. Oil burners and water pumps were submerged, with pumping into the night in Washington Street, Bristol Narrows, east side, and south end areas.

A meeting of the Hope Circle No 70 Daughters of Isabella to plan the Christmas Party is set tonight in the K of C Rooms after St Mary's Church Novena. Return of George McCarthy brings joy to Richmond family

Elizabeth Ryder of Richmond, Virginia spent Thanksgiving with William McCarthy and his mother Mrs Mary McCarthy at 326 Wood Street and has returned home. George McCarthy, back from Germany, reunited with Bill for the first time in 2 years 8 months, and another son Pfc. John J. McCarthy is expected home in January from Cuba. Donations to the American Legion Christmas Fund total 184.00 with many local groups and individuals contributing.

Christmas tableaux advance by junior pupils art project

Townspeople will view near final life size Nativity Wise Men and shepherds tableaux built by junior high pupils under Miss Margaret Nerone. Plans include electric sign at State and Wood and a Saturday Tag Day for fund raising. Carol service set with band rehearsal December 17 and a program across churches with Sisson and Giles coordinating readings and choirs.

The Home Demonstration Club will hold their Christmas party Thursday evening in the K of C Hall on State street.
