School Committee Votes on Washington Street Site Purchase

At last night's Colt Memorial High School library session the school committee approved buying Narragansett Electric Lighting land on Washington Street for the Gul leras Memorial School project. The Wardwell and Paull estate parcels were also approved for purchase. a title search contract was authorized. totals include 4500 plus 1345 and 15000 and 10000.

Bristolian William Lawless 1789 War of 1812 Soldier Preacher

Letter to the editor recalls William Lawless born July 1789 in Bristol New England. He served in the War of 1812 at Fort Casco and, as a licensed preacher, built a church on Court Street and preached weekly. The writer notes Lawless’s memory, eloquence, and his descendants still in Bristol, naming Mrs. Arselia Morice Babbitt as a notable relative.

Firemen Meetings Plan Turkey Supper and Fair Attendance

The four local volunteer fire companies held their regular monthly meetings last Wednesday. Hydraulion Engine and Hose Company admitted no new members. Rough and Ready Fire Company to attend Warren fair on Saturday evening December 20. A turkey supper is set for January 7 with an arrangements committee named: Louis Gallo, John Campbell, James F Meiggs, William Francis, Samuel Allen Mott, George Bush, William H Spooner, and Robert J Anderson.

Fire company banquet plans and memberships listed

The Dreadnaught Hook Ladder and Hose Company set a January 15 turkey supper and appointed a banquet committee led by William T Simmons with several members named. Three new members were admitted and two membership applications were received. The Ever Ready Engine and Hose Co No 2 announced a January banquet with delegates to the State Firemen's League. The Defiance Hose Company scheduled a January 3 banquet with a committee led by Charles Fales. An invitation to the Rough and Ready Fire Company fair was accepted or laid on the table.
