U S Rubber Company to Dedicate Honor Roll Today

The U S Rubber Company will dedicate an honor roll this afternoon at 3:00 led by Major Alex Smith of the War Department Industrial Service Division. Wesley A. Armstrong presides at the ceremony in front of the plant on Wood Street. The display, erected by the Employees’ Association, lists service members in white letters on black with a gold eagle top, and includes Edward MacDougald of East Providence as the sole gold name currently. A bronze plaque behind honors World War One service.

Water supply restored after heavy rains in Bristol County

W H Streit manager of Bristol County Water Company announced that recent rainfall replenished the watershed and ended a severe drought. Normal use resumes but customers are urged to avoid waste, fix leaks, and conserve water for fuel and materials in the war effort.

Mrs Marie Vermette was named co chair and Mrs Marie Mr Were was appointed chairman of the Hope Circle No 70 Daughters of Isabella Christmas party set for December 20. Tin Cans Should Be Saved For Salvage Drive

Twenty nine loads of rubbish were collected by the town truck in a clean up. Reynolds Northrup says at least half the material could have been salvaged and urges saving tin cans for next week’s collection to aid the fighting men. He notes careless disposal reduces the upcoming amount of salvaged material.

Old Clothing Drive Underway Led By Salvage Committee

At a Salvage for Victory meeting Mrs James McKenna was named chair of the ongoing old clothes drive. Churches serve as collection depots and preach Sunday notices. Clothes are sorted for wear or rags with 90 percent destined for overseas relief and 10 percent for local needy families.

Air Medal Awarded Sgt Walter E Fields for five bomber missions

Staff Sergeant Walter E Fields of 7 Howe Street received the Air Medal for exceptional merit during five bomber combat missions over enemy occupied Europe. The citation praises his courage coolness and skill reflecting credit on himself and the United States Armed Forces. He is the son of Albert and the late Edna Fields, husband of Claire Cote and father of Sandra. He graduated from RAF Flexible Gunnery School in 1942 and later served overseas.
