Bristol Council of Defense discusses a Three-State Air Raid Field Exercise to be staged January 9 1944 with Civil Air Patrol units from Massachusetts Connecticut and Rhode Island. If weather fails the drill moves to January 16. Local boy messengers will carry messages during the exercise.

Oliver Brothers Pursue Aviation Training Progress

Oliver brothers George S. and Edmund D. continue military aviation pathways in 1940s Texas. George arrives at San Antonio Army Aviation Classification Center from Cincinnati to qualify as navigator pilot or bombardier and aims for pre flight training within a week. Dedication of U S Rubber Co Honor Roll in Bristol

The Bristol plant of United States Rubber Company will dedicate an Honor Roll Tuesday at 2 45 PM. The list includes over 300 former employees now in service with one name Edward MacDonald of East Providence listed as missing in action. A bronze World War One plaque sits behind the Honor Roll. Byfield Nursery School Hosts Successful Open House

Miss Marguerite Brogan called the event a very successful open house at Byfield Nursery School held last evening. Parents toured the two play rooms sleeping room and kitchen with Brogan guiding then heard remarks from Elmer S Mapes superintendent of schools who praised the progress and teachers. Mrs Irene Pederson discussed routines and home help Mrs Ella Farnum spoke on music and Mrs Julia DiCianni described toy choices that build coordination and learning. John L Burke showed a nursery school film and after the program refreshments were served in the kitchen.

Lt Governor Proposes After School Recreation Program

Lt Governor Louis W Cappelli outlined an after school plan at a Rotary Club meeting. He urged turning school facilities to supervised classes in sewing carpentry theater and machine work with student choice and dances. He called for servicemen and organizational support to back the effort. Raymond Makowsky sent a Christmas card from the South Pacific.

Bristol Garden Club president announces a copy of My Turtles by Josephine Gibson Knowlton has been placed in Rogers Free Library. The book, richly bound and illustrated, reflects a collaborative purchase by the Bristol Garden Club library and several individuals. Mrs Knowlton, summer resident here, has earned praise for presenting the material.

Xmas Seal Design by Andre Dugo Sparks Local Sale

Andre Dugo, an internationally known artist, designed the 1943 Christmas Seal issued to raise funds for the Bristol Tuberculosis Association. The seal, pictured a girl gazing from a window at Santa Claus in the sky, went on sale last Saturday and runs through Christmas.

Hungarian-born artist Mr. Dugos gains fame in Europe and America

Mr Dugo born in Szolnok Hungary showed artistic promise early. He studied architecture in Budapest but turned to painting self taught after a sixteenth year in Paris. His work appeared in major European and American magazines including Vanity Fair Harper's Bazaar and Town and Country. He is an American citizen married to a Paris acquaintance and lives with his family in Suffern New York.
