Manuel Mattes aged 65 of 9 Magnolia Street received a surprise birthday party Sunday at his son Josephs home 1067 Hope Street. About 12 close relatives attended and a cash gift was presented after refreshments. He works for the town highway department. The Mattes family includes four sons and four daughters.

Mrs Martin Attends Parents 50th Anniversary in Town

Mrs Frederick V. Martin travels to Daytona Beach Florida to join parents Mr and Mrs Samuel Hawkes marking their 50th wedding anniversary. The Hawkes family, long established in town lore as Madame Martial House, includes DAR involvement and crystal glass makers T G Hawkes and Company, now run by the family for seven generations.

Artillery Hall Offers Reserve Armory for Training

The Bristol Train of Artillery offered its armory to Capt Joseph F Bullock who is organizing a Bristol reserve artillery battery. Bullock reported over half the required men have volunteered and the unit would join the 302nd Field Artillery Battalion of the 76th Infantry Division with headquarters in Providence. The active reserve uses a pay schedule similar to the National Guard with one drill per week and two weeks of summer duty.

Cup Defenders Elect Officers In League Voting
