Surprise 70th Birthday for Barre Pastor Hood

More than 100 parishioners and neighbors gathered at the Barre State Street M E Church vestry to honor Rev. W. Lenoir Hood on his 70th birthday. Guests included his sister Minnie Hood and daughter Eleanor Hood with a bouquet for Hood, a 70 candle cake, a silver loving cup, and remarks from church leaders. Hood has led the Barre church for nearly four years and is praised for parish growth and community service. the crowd hopes his ministry continues for many years.

Basketball Tomorrow at Y Gym Delights Local Fans

Tomorrow night the local Y Seniors face the Delphi team of Fall River at 8 o clock in the Y gym. Delphi recently beat Mt Pleasant of New Bedford and has appeared in Bristol before, drawing praise for clean amateur play. A second game features the Y Juniors versus Reynolds School in a lively follow up contest.

Probate Court Actions Opened by Judge Leahy Yesterday

In a Probate Court session before Judge Edward L. Leahy several matters were heard. The guardian’s final account for William H. Coggeshall was allowed. The executors first and final account for Sarah E. Sherman was allowed. The administratrix petition for sale of real estate in the Henry Paul Trudell estate was allowed. The administrator petition to erect a monument for Josiah Everett Coggeshall was allowed. The inventory for the Owen Morris estate was allowed.

Mount Hope Order of Eastern Star Initiates Class

The 10th regular meeting of Mount Hope Chapter No 23 OES held in the Masonic Temple Hope Street initiated a large class of candidates. Grace Huestis presented a bible and Jane Patton presented a charter container. Refreshments followed in the banquet hall.

Christmas Good Turn by Bristol Scouts Aids Needy Children

Bristol Volunteers prepare to distribute toys to 200 to 300 needy local children at Christmas. Boy Scouts collect broken toys through boxes in town stores to repair with funds for parts and clothing if surplus remains. Last year they repaired over a thousand toys for 205 recipients and invite donations or toy drops via scout headquarters or any scout.

Members Supper at Y Inaugurates Series at Rockwell Hall

Last Friday Rockwell Hall hosted the first members supper bringing together Junior Employed Boys and High School groups. Ed White presided with Hobbs Burnham Perry Remineres and Miss Kinder providing remarks and music. A membership contest was announced with prizes a sweat shirt Keds and bowling checks. A health themed talk by Mr Hobbs followed and moving pictures were shown. A Juniors versus Employed Boys basketball game concluded the evening with broad praise for the event.

Community Calendar to Feature Bristol Doorway Scene

The Community Calendar is on the press and will be ready for sale early in the month for holiday gifting. All quotations are secured and a cover design depicting a Bristol doorway with verse is set. Each contributor will receive a copy and 435 extra copies will be sold by the Ladies' Committee at fifty cents each.

Social Study Supper Launches Educational Series

Thursday at 6 30 the first Social Study Supper for men and women will feature a fine menu served by the ladies at a nominal charge. Colin T Holms will lecture on Thomas Jefferson Builder of America with special music and moving pictures. Tickets are available at the Y up to Wednesday evening.

Relief Corps Meeting Notes and Upcoming Officer Election

The Babbitt Woman's Relief Corps gathered Friday evening with one new membership application recorded. Officers for the coming year will be elected at the next meeting. Refreshments followed the business session served by the executive committee. A flag team drill preceded the meeting.
