St Michael’s Bristol to mark two centuries and Sunday School centennial

Plans for the 200th anniversary of St Michael’s Church Bristol and the 100th anniversary of its Sunday school unfold with morning and evening services. A relic loan exhibit will travel to the chapel on Sept 28 with articles from parish members. A parish canvass aims to raise 200 pounds for the Venerable Society for Propagating the Gospel in Foreign Parts, aiding church missions and preserving historical religious books.

Government Calls 25000 Women to Student Nurse Reserve

The Government seeks 25 000 young women to join the United States Student Nurse Reserve for two to three years training. Enrollees release a nurse for service at the front, with enrollment open Sept 5 to 21 at Miss Wyatt 89 State Street. Bertha Wyatt, Chairman.

Break-ins Hit Two Local Shops Sunday Night

Thieves broke into the Grocery Store of A M Miere and a saloon at Woodford and Wood streets Sunday night. A pane was removed and the safe attempted. loot included a 32 caliber revolver, flashlights, BB shot, cigarettes, confections, and about $15 in change from the saloon. Police are investigating.

Barrington Man Charged With Bootlegging

John Bryden of Barrington was arraigned in Warren last Thursday for Tom Howick of the Department of Justice. He faced a charge of furnishing intoxicating liquor to a man in the U S Navy uniform, pleaded guilty, and was held for the Federal Grand Jury in bail of $1000 in Providence before U S Commissioner Archibald C Matteson.

National India Rubber workers vote to resume labor

About 400 to 500 employees including Italian and Portuguese workers met on the Common this morning and urged to return to work. The plant will reopen Tuesday September 3, with notices posted in the shoe department. Gov Beeckman and Sheriff Cady coordinated efforts to maintain order if needed.

Physical Director resigns at local Y M C A board meeting

Plan for Reception for New Soldiers' Home Commandant

Commandant Murdoch McKenzie of the Soldiers' Home is to be given a reception in G A R Hall on Friday evening September 20. At a joint meeting of Babbitt Post No 15 and Babbit Woman's Relief Corps plans were made for the reception in honor of the new commandant. Invitations will go to commanding officers of military groups Town Council State Legislature representatives and local clergy. Commandant McKenzie succeeds Capt Benjamin L Hall at the home on March 31.
