Narra gansett Electric Company completes changes to Bristol distribution system to meet growing demand. A portable substation will supply power Sunday morning during the cut over, with sections shut off briefly to minimize outages.
A number of townspeople are expected at the farewell party for Rev Dr R H Mercer and Mrs Mercer tonight at the Guild Hall of St Matthew's Episcopal Church West Barrington. Mercer recently became rector of St Mary's Church East Providence and will start Sept 1. He will give his final sermon at St Matthew's this Sunday.
Thirty five women workers from the Bristol plant of the United States Rubber Company will attend an outing tomorrow at Lake Pearl in Wrentham Massachusetts. Buses depart from the factory at 9 am. Misses Margaret McCallum and Lillian Phe nes lead arrangements for the Employees Association.
A five member housing committee was announced today by Mrs. Elizabeth Gifford president of Kearney Unit American Legion Auxiliary. The members are Miss Helen Condop, Mrs. Annette Vona, Mrs Anna Gablinske, Mrs Minnie Cashin and Mrs Beatrice Hill.

Manuel S Correa proprietor of the White Front Market died last night at his home 77 Franklin Street after a long illness He was 56 native of St Michaels Azores came to Bristol 39 years ago and was active in the Portuguese American colony He is survived by his wife Adeline Soares Correa and one daughter Funeral services will be held at 715 in the morning from his home followed by a requiem mass at 8 in St Elizabeth's Church Burial will be in St Mary's Cemetery.
John W Haley to deliver tribute and host a Sunday memorial concert in front of Colt Memorial High School. The Bristol Train of Artillery Band will perform selections favored by the late doctor with free tickets via local women’s committee, Duffy's, and Buffington's Pharmacy.
Mrs Madeline Almeida was re elected chairman of the Bristol Home demonstration Club for a second term after a meeting at the Town Beach. Officers chosen included Mrs Johanna McClure, Miss Margaret Callan, and Miss Winifred C Walsh as secretary treasurer. Rhode Island State Farm Bureau speaker Miss Vivian MacFawn attended. The gathering was a picnic supper with about 25 members. The unit sets its next meeting for Oct 4 at Mrs Anna Heinkle’s Providence home.
Bristol Yacht Club announces its annual regatta for September 2 in Narragansett Bay with boats across 22 classes. The event features a luncheon tea and a dance, nine race courses, and pennants awarded by the Narragansett Yachting Association. Peter Geddes chairs the regatta committee with local officials and volunteers organizing the day’s activities.
