Carr Manufacturing Co vows cooperation amid sewer odor row

Carr Manufacturing president Arthur H. Carr told the sewer commission he is willing to cooperate but says the plant’s waste discharge has been reduced from 800 to 400 gallons daily and odors persist. Donat J. Gladue reported Ferry Road residents’ odor complaints and the commission’s search for solutions, including a WPA disposal plan that was abandoned.

Botelho To Face Fifth District Court

Antone Botelho, 17, of 14 Richmond street, may face Fifth District Court on Sept 1 after an auto accident Sunday night. He drove a car registered to Anthony Reis, 14 Roma street, west on Richmond and struck three parked cars in front of Campanella's store. Patrolman Bullock found Botelho driving without a license and said he may be charged with driving to endanger.

Parishioners plan dance at Bristol Casino for parish fund

Members of St Mary's Church invite men and women to a Sept 15 dance at the Bristol Casino to raise money for the parish fund. Proceeds go to church needs and community outreach.

Work Relief Bureau Plans For WPA Needy Care

The Bristol Work Relief Bureau will meet tomorrow at 5 pm to consider plans for caring for those dropped from WPA rolls. The number slated for removal has been reduced from 112 to 107, with officials including Orlando Bisbane and Farrell D Coyle. About 13,000 remains for relief. 22 persons are on WPA locally, up five from August 17.

Socialites Plan Charity Film Night at Pastime Theatre

Italian Socialites Women's Club to host a September 24 film revival of Magnificent Obsession starring Irene Dunne and Robert Taylor at the Pastime Theatre. The fundraiser supports the club's charity fund and its ongoing aid to needy families. the group recently completed a tonsil clinic for 12 children, doubling last year's efforts. Tribute to Dr Merriman at Bristol open air concert

A memorial open air concert honored the late Dr Alfred Merriman in front of Colt Memorial High School. The Bristol Train of Artillery Band performed Merriman favored selections under Mrs Theresa Donovan with 300 spectators present. John W Haley gave a tribute and committee members thanked the town council school communities and others for support.

Funeral Tomorrow For Father Dellarole

Funeral services for Rev Domenic Dellarole pastor of Our Lady of Loretta Church East Providence will be held at 9 am. A pontifical requiem mass at 10 am will be sung by Bishop Francis P Keough. Burial in St Ann's Cemetery Cranston. Fr Dellarole, known in Bristol's Italian colony, died Sunday in Wellsville New York after a heart attack aged 56 or 57.

Bristol Electric Raises Voltage To 4000 Volts In Town

Nar ragansett Electric crews completed cut overs at Thames Street sub station to boost distribution voltage from 2400 to 4000. A 22 ton portable sub station aided the transfer, reducing outages to minutes. The change keeps customer wiring intact as transformers regulate service.

Red Cross updates swimming course schedule across venues

Officials announce a revised Red Cross swimming class timetable effective yesterday. The Harbor site lists Life Saving 9 11, Beginners 11 130, Swimmers 1130 12. Burton Street covers Beginners 10 11 and Swimmers 11 12. Town Beach runs Beginners 1 2, Swimmers 2 3, Life Saving 3 5 on listed days. Colt Drive offers Beginners 1 2 and Swimmers 2 3 on Wednesdays and Fridays.
