The Soldiers' Home veterans joined the annual outing and clambake hosted by the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Department of Rhode Island at the Home. Miss Susan M. Sheple and Dept Commander Fred O Arnold spoke, with Marion Walker and Barbara Collins leading most sports prizes. Joseph Texeira won the 100 yard dash, and guests included former Senator Ezra Dixon and Dept Commander Charles Bullock.

Leaves For Five Years of Mission Work in China
Mrs Harold N Brewster daughter of Mr and Mrs Sydney A Davidson of Brockton Mass will leave Thursday for Honolulu where her husband Dr Brewster will intern at a hospital for 18 months. After that they will sail to China for a five year missionary stint. She was educated in Brockton and Boston University and has served as secretary to the Dean of Boston University Medical. Her husband was born in China of missionary parents and his mother completes 40 years in the field next year.

Boys Return From Camp At Mt Hope Bay
St Michael's Boys Club campers returned Friday after three days near the Mt Hope Bay shore. Each lad cooked his own meals and followed strict rules while religious services and organized activities kept them busy. The watermelon and treasure hunts featured Captains Brown Angevine Peckham and others with teams winning prizes. The Box Scouts joined a marshmallow toast bonfire and Moonacs hunt, led by Rev Mr Toadyin and Frederick B Brownell.

Lightning strikes home on Diman Avenue damaging chimney and utilities
The home of Mr and Mrs Robert Gsrav on Diman Avenue was struck by lightning last Wednesday afternoon around 4:45. A fireball hit the chimney, loosening bricks and tearing off the ridgeboard. The strike disabled the telephone, electric lights, and radio. It is the second time in a year the house has been struck during a thunderstorm.

Sea Scouts Win Cutter Race At East Greenwich Regatta
Sea Scouts from Kearney Ship win the cutter race at the East Greenwich Yacht Club regatta held last Saturday. Bristol crew finished first with a time of 13m 45.4s beating Westerly by 1m 48.6s, amid a strong wind on a two mile course. The Bristol team included Michael Tamburro and Raym'd Bisbane among others. Arthur Belmore and Eric Marsden also won the double race with a silver cup.
