A crowd of 1,000 attended the third annual playground awards night on the Common. Winners received eight trophies and 13 major awards from the Board of Recreation, with flag ceremonies by Boy and Girl Scouts and a program ending in a black dance.

Bristol Antique Car Meet Attracts 46 Autos
The largest antique car gathering in town history drew 46 cars from Boston area clubs to Ralph F Kinder's Sun day home on Pappasquash Road. A parade rode through town streets around Colt Drive before refreshments hosted by Mr and Mrs Kinder, with guests Town Clerk John W Pot as BU Fiche.

Community awards honor park players and helpers

Three Doctors Agree To Sunday Emergency Plan
Three local physicians Dr. C. Paul Bruno Dr. Richard K. Jennings and Dr. Hubert Holdsworth agreed to a Sunday emergency schedule with noon to 8 pm availability. Bruno starts next Sunday followed by Jennings and Holdsworth in order. Bristol Harbor Race Week plan approved in 1957
The harbor development commission initiated plans for a permanent Bristol Harbor Race Week. A steering committee was organized and a date tentatively set for the weekend around August 14 1957. The commission valued the event and noted harbor facilities suit the program. Thomas P Brightman reported $100 in local donations to aid the Narragansett Bay Yachting Association in purchasing trophies for races held August 10 11 and 12, with NB Ya sponsoring the sailing events.

Union Meeting This Afternoon On Work Return
Workers in the wire division of the U.S. Rubber Co who walked out last Friday will be briefed at a 2:30 p.m. meeting in Independence Hall on Tuesday's four and a half hour session between management and labor representatives. Salvatore Camelio, URWA district director, says the union seeks a quick settlement and has asked for a two week foreman layoff plus one week per day of stoppage.

Fishermen Show Interest in New Federal Loans
Commercial fishermen show interest in a new ten million dollar revolving loan fund created by Congress under the Fish and Wildlife Act of 1956. The fund offers 3 percent annual interest with a ten year loan limit for financing operations maintenance and equipment for vessels and gear. Bristol shell fishermen plan to invest seven to eight hundred dollars to qualify on the river and local applications processing remains to be announced. Prudence Cafe Reopens After State Lifts Suspension
The Prudence Cafe reopened shortly after 1 p.m. today as state liquor administrator Charles F. Reynolds lifted a suspension placed by the town council last Monday night. The brother of Police Chief Ferrara, Nicholas Ferrara, was on duty, and Reynolds could not be reached for comment. City officials questioned the move as the police chief’s report on brawls last weekend remained pending. A naval destroyer Monssen was due in Newport with a crewman, John J. Michler, 19, wanted for questioning in connection with incidents at the cafe. The council had suspended the license after a series of fights resulting in injuries. An appeal to Reynolds was expected to yield a hearing in Providence soon.
