Manuel Sylvia Dies After Long Illness in Bristol
Manuel Sylvia a longtime Bristol resident died yesterday at a Providence hospital after a long illness. He was 58 or 59 and native of Erie Pennsylvania. He worked in National India Rubber Company cable department and retired. Survived by wife Mary Nunes Sylvia son John Providence two daughters Mrs Anthony Medeiros Providence Mrs John Tufarola and Miss Dolores Sylvia Bristol two sisters Mrs Henry Jo Svhvia Sr and Mrs Achille R Maturi Boston. Funeral services Monday 8 15 a m from Charles M Connery Funeral Home Burton Street with 9 a m mass at St Elizabeth Church. Burial at St Marys Cemetery.

Samuel Bumpus of Hall River Rotary spoke at the noon meeting about a government sponsored scientific expedition studying ocean life off George's Banks southeast of Nantucket. Sedans Collide in Washington Street Crash
A sedan driven by Manuel Cardoza, 52, and a delivery truck driven by Manuel Januario, 50, collided just after 6 PM in front of 42 Washington Street. Cardoza’s car sustained heavy right side damage while Januario was backing after delivering ice to a nearby house near the Guiteras school driveway. Cardoza was traveling east on Washington Street. No injuries reported. Patrolman A. Michael Bullock investigated.

The Collins Aikman Girls Club held its annual Field Day at Point Pleasant Farm featuring competitive sports swimming a frankfort roast and a softball game. Winners included Edith Bisbane Mary McKenna in the three legged race Mary Gomes Agnes Roderick in wheel barrow and Edith Bisbane Agnes Roderick in the shoe race Dorothy St Angelo and Madeline Cartellessa in the 50 yard dash and other events. Watermelon and soda were served as the sun shone on the grounds and the girls enjoyed the day.
