Rhode Island Firemen Visit Rockland Hydraulion Fraternity

A Maine town hosts twenty seven Rhode Island firefighters from the Hydraulion Engine Company of Bristol for a fraternal visit to Americus Hook and Ladder of Rockland. The trip includes motor tours to Beech Hill Summit Thomaston Warren and Crescent Beach with speeches lunches and a seafood plambake featuring 300 lobsters. The Bristol crew wins a rope tug of war over local firemen as photographers capture the moment.

Field Day and Excursion of United Brothers Lodge No 18

The annual excursion and field day for United Brothers Lodge No 18 I O O F featured a shore dinner at Stone Bridge Hotel Tiverton and a sail to Newport. Despite a lack of financial success due to the Grange bake at Warren and members in Maine, 107 excursionists traveled aboard the Sagamore More arriving at Tiverton for a 2:45 dinner. Events included 50 yard dashes for men and women, fat men’s race, baseball throwing contests, and a highly celebrated baseball game where married men beat single men 14 to 9. An umpire was allegedly targeted by Fred Brownell in the first inning, a claim tied to the chief of police. The voyage ended with the Sagamore returning to Newport and Bristol, with organizers listed.
