Olympian Club Announces Outing and Clam Bake

The Olympian Club will hold its annual outing and clam bake on Sunday August 16 at Sousa's farm on the east shore of Portsmouth. Members and friends will travel by motorboats. Controversy Delays Town Unemployment Relief Committee

The Special Relief Committee tasked to oversee a $15,000 unemployment relief fund met with a halt as secretary Mrs Vasta La Ruggeiro refused to sign bills until the legality of the committee was resolved. Chairman Rev Anthony R Parshley stated the group believes it is legally formed despite opposition from some members and a plan for a community store was rejected.

Bristol Town Council Seeks Legal Action on Poor Relief

The council considers a special appropriation to fund relief for the poor and unemployed as public aid funds dwindle. Citing Quinn vs Barber and Caswell vs Hazard, the Town Solicitor warns the Aug 10 1931 relief resolution conflicts with Rhode Island law. The plan: seek legal action at the next meeting and present the issue at a future town meeting while the Director of Public Aid continues operations. (Continued on Page Six)

Bristol Garden Club held a Wednesday meeting at Mrs R F Haffenreffer Jr's home with Mt Hope Farms exhibits judged by popular vote. Miss Agnes Herreshoff won Class A first prize for pink mallow and Chinese forget-me-not. Mrs Alfred M Merriman took second with tall salmon gladioli in an antique brass incense burner.

Indian Celebration Set for Prudence Island Observance

A tercentenary celebration of Conanicus and Miantonomi, Narragansett chiefs, unfolds tomorrow on Prudence Island with a wedding war dance tobacco ceremony throne unveiling and a parade led by Col. Merton A. Cheesman. The event includes 60 Narragansetts 50 RI Historical Society members 100 Bristol Boy Scouts and associated groups. Notables include Chief Rainbow and Rev Gideon Burgess with a public program at Alta Vista hall at 2 30 pm.
