Serbst Candidate Emerges in Bristol GOP Races

Orlando J. Bisbane withdraws from consideration for Representative from the First District after the Bristol Republican Town Committee endorsed Councilman Henry F. Serbst for State Senate. The committee also endorsed other GOP candidates including Charles A. Curran for Congress and Ralph T. Church for the Second District seat, with replacements named if Bisbane declines.

Battery C Reunion Honors War Dead in Newport

Battery C 243rd Coast Artillery members meet at Colonial Hotel tomorrow evening for a reunion with a candle ceremony to honor four former members who died in World War II. Norman C. Salvatore of Warren will toast, Major Stanley Smith of Colonial Village Newport will speak, and Major Manuel Morris Jr. will also address attendees alongside a local West Point graduate if present. Taps by a Boy Scout bugler will close the exercises before entertainment.

Fifty Organizations to Take Part in Competition

More than fifty musical groups in Rhode Island Massachusetts and Connecticut received invitations to compete in the third annual fife drum and bugle corps contest sponsored by the Bristol Boy Scout Bugle and Drum Corps. The event on Sunday August 25 at Guiteras Field follows Rhode Island Fife Drum and Bugle Corps Association rules with medals and prewar trophies for corps winners. A parade precedes the judging at Reynolds School with George R. Fish in charge and a team including Harry Sousa Ennis Bisbane Edward Silvia Joseph Castro and Walter Machado and Guibert Alves assisting.

Bazaar Delight To Young And Old At St Marys Parish Fair

The annual bazaar of St Marys Parish closed Saturday after a week of fun for all ages. A free act daily and a Saturday matinee for children accompanied booths selling snacks and specialties. Attractions included a ferris wheel bingo and a merry go round. Gordon Meiggs chaired the event with parish helpers.

A block dance to honor V-J Day will be held tomorrow evening on Third Street in Bristol from 8 to 12. Mrs. Mabel Anselmo leads the event with assistance from Mrs. Mary Torres. Manuel Torres handles music. The Drum Corps aims to perform at Branford Connecticut State Field Day next Saturday but lacks transportation. private cars or beach wagons are needed, with fuel provided by the corps if volunteers help.

Bristol Volunteers Tare for Newport 1898 Spanish War

Bristol volunteers from the R. S. Naval Reserves depart for duty after Gov. Dyer orders 150 men and 13 officers to serve at Newport coast on patrol vessels. A procession, rain or shine, sends 38 volunteers and 3 officers to face the examination with Ex-Lieut. Gov. Wardwell organizing the send-off. The unit includes Lt. George W. Suydam and Chief Boatswain Robert A. McCaughey among others. They sail aboard the USS Hist after passing examinations.
