Veterans Day Parade Plan Reveals Local Dignitaries and Route

A Veterans Day parade will march through the town with local dignitaries and a line of veterans groups. Edward S Medeiros chairs the parade committee with Anthony J Dennis Jr as principal speaker. The route runs from Wood Street to Church Street to High Street ending at Town Hall, followed by wreath laying at Veterans Park and town landmarks.

Edward Travers Returns Here After National Training Course

Edward P Travers, supervisor of risto hoods, returns from a weeklong summer lab at Gould Academy Bees. The session, first for school administrators, was led by the National Training Laboratory of the National Education Association in Washington DC. The program, backed by Carnegie and Michigan's Research Center, stressed group process and self understanding with staff from major universities.

Ethel Colt to Headline Benefit Concert in Bristol

Ethel Barrymore Colt will perform September 6 at 8 15 pm in Colt Memorial Auditorium for the Citizens Scholarship Foundation of Bristol and the Bristol Historical Society. Tickets are 2.50 a person with proceeds aiding local scholarship efforts.

Barrington Woman Found Dead After Bridge Jump

The body of 38 year old Gwen Bettencourt of Barrington was found face down in Narragansett Bay a mile south of Hog Island after leaping from Mt Hope Bridge around 9:45 pm Wednesday. Her car was abandoned near the east tower with the radio on and she was identified by her husband Edward Bettencourt. Funeral plans and investigations followed as Coast Guard and state police coordinated searches through the night and into morning.

V. J. Day Dance For Teen-Agers

A V. J. Day dance for teen-agers will be held on the Town Common Monday night from 8:15 to 10:15 p.m. Recreation director Anthony Agatiello announces the event. John A. Carre, board chair, notes a Bristol girl will be announced as winner of the Mr. Softee Ice Cream Contest at the dance.

Annual Rumstick To Town Beach Swim Held Monday

Seven registered for the 7th annual Rumstick Point to Bristol Town Beach Swim on August 14 V J Day. The mile and a half Red Cross sponsored race is open to all ages with check in at 12 30 pm at Bristol Town Beach for transport to Rumstick. Trophies will go to the top three men and top three women. Participants include James K Edwards Winsor Coleman Bob Mercer Debbie and Duiatie Blomquist Gene Stezasak and Ann Urban. Warren Argore seeks to join via Avr Securo at the Town Beach or CL 3-6329.
