Planning Board to study road standards for new Bristol developments

Bristol Planning Board met with Town Solicitor Eugene Cochran and Highway Surveyor Joseph Pannone to consider amending regulations requiring contractors to build hard surfaced roads in front of new developments. Cochran warned section five overstates town duties, arguing funding and council votes are needed for hard surfacing.

Bristol Property Valuation Rises Near One Million

Bristol 1950 total assessed valuation climbs to 21,313,800 up from 20,369,925 in 1949 with a net tax assessment of 460,520.75 after exemptions. Tangible personal property gains lead the rise with 575,840 more than last year, while buildings and improvements add 304,140 and intangible property increases 12,350. The tax rate is 2.46 per 100 for real estate and tangible property and 40 cents per 100 for intangible property.

The Bristol Phoenix will be closed Monday for V J Day in Rhode Island. The paper will publish on Wednesday instead of Tuesday. August 14 is Victory Day and laws restrict work on holidays except in specific cases.

The Bristol Kearney Post baseball team defeated Lackanasset Post of Crawley 6 to 5 after trailing early. Dan Ahearn tripled in the fourth and Hermhan Grabert drove in the tying run in the eighth. Cordeiro pitched in relief and Bristol used a ninth inning baserunner to score the winning run on a wild throw and a long fly by Ahearn. Coach Vin Santo praised the hustle as Bristol extended a 12 game win streak and eyed national scouts and playoffs with Connecticut and beyond.

Rangers Move Memorial Contest From Guiteras Field

The Bristol Rangers Drum and Bugle Corps will hold its third annual memorial competition in Warren on Sunday, Aug. 27 after being denied use of the concession at Guiteras Field by the Bristol Boy Scouts Parents' Committee. President Anthony A Balzano says the refusal stems from a no sublet clause and lack of prior school committee consent, forcing the corps to seek an alternate site and proposing a $25 concession payment.
