Cranston Ousted R. I. N. G. Battery 6 to 3

Frankie Lewis’s Cranston team wins 6 to 3 over the R I N G Battery C outfit on a Wednesday. Babe was strong for Cranston with six walks but limited hits. Henry Durtis of Providence College pitched for the soldiers, giving up nine hits while seven errors by his teammates kept the score close. Bobby Biber opened for the Battery, and Perry scored on a passed ball. The Cranston attack expanded in the third and fourth frames, with Halbert and Cavallaro keying a five run inning aided by Enright Mortenson and Medeiros errors. continuation noted on fourth page.

Mt Hope Bridge Tragedy Claims Third Fall Fatality

Leopold Lahaie aged 55 of Fall River died after a 10 foot fall from scaffolding on the Mount Hope bridge Portsmouth side. He suffered a fractured skull and was taken to Truesdale Hospital where he died at 1.30 pm. Lahaie worked for the Foundation Company around the pier cofferdam.

Probate Court approves admin appointments and real estate sale

A special Probate Court session led by Judge Edward L. Leahy acted on estates including Caroline Abra Manuel Sousa Phillips appointing an administrator with a $300 bond and John Sousa Phillips as appraiser. Harold FE Hill named administrator with $1000 bond and Eber Hill appraiser. Permisssion granted to sell Hannah C Perry estate real estate not below $10,000 with a $15,000 bond. Edward Louis Gallup minor inventory recorded and William E Matteson estate permit to continue business for administrator.

Prudence to Bristol Long Distance Swim Draws 27 Entrants

Supervisor George J. O'Brien notes 27 entrants for the Prudence to Bristol race to be run next Sunday starting from the Homestead at 12 40 p m. The 3 1 2 mile course is expected to take 2 1 2 to 3 hours with finish witnesses advised to be near the bath house around 3 10 p m. Entrants include Lawrence Thompson John Pacheco Regina Farley Virgil Arruda Raymond Makowsky Vincent Chercita and Thompson who returns as a top contender. The event will be supported by Herbert Farr loaning a tow boat and Buffington's Pharmacy displaying the cups, with James Sullivan as time keeper.

Reception for Reverend Beverly Boyd at Williams home

About 175 members and friends of St Michael's Church attended a reception at Dr and Mrs W Fred Williams Hope Street to honor Rev Beverly M Boyd of Christ Church Martinsville Virginia, supplying St Michael's pulpit for the month. Music by an orchestra directed by Fred M Straight, with two solos by Fred Dietz from St Michael's quartet. Decor features gladioli hydrangeas and garden blooms. Refreshments provided by a Providence caterer.

Bristol Yacht Club hosts food sale and whist event

The Bristol Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held a food sale and whist yesterday afternoon at the Bristol Yacht Club. About 40 tables were in play with prizes awarded at each table. Home made cake candy and ice cream were sold during the afternoon. The event committee included Mrs William H Angevine chairwoman Mrs Edward I Brownell Mrs John B Batchelor Mrs John W Church and Mrs Vernon A Gray.
