Kindergarten Enrollment Examinations Begin At Reynolds School
Parents of children entering kindergarten or first grade are advised by School Superintendent Edward J. Fitzgerald that physical examination forms have been distributed to local physicians for use if parents wish their child examined by the family doctor. Forms may be obtained at the superintendent's office in Reynolds School from 9 to 11 45 am and from 1 to 4 pm if the family doctor is out of town.

Kearney Post No 6 American Legion outlined plans for V J Day activities for Monday August 14 1961. Members will meet at Veterans Memorial Park at 9 am to join the parade at 930 am with concluding exercises at Burnside Memorial Building. The post announced 1961 membership 270 of 306 quota with two new inductees Crescinzo Malafronte and George Sylvia. A family clambake was slated for August 27 and junior vice commander John Pimental led the arrangements. A donation was approved for the annual Policeman’s Ball. A district delegation attended Stark Parker Post 21 installation ceremonies in Rumford resulting in district appointments. George E Dion of Kearney Post was installed district senior vice commander and Joseph J Bisbane Jr as sergeant-at-arms. Kearney Post and auxiliary officers were to be installed October 7 1961.

First New England Built Tuna Clipper Is Ready for Launching
Blount Marine Corp announces the launching of its 75th hull, the first East Coast tuna purse seiner for Cape Cod Tuna Corp of Boston. The 64 foot all welded steel vessel, F Nelson Blount, will be christened by Miss Carolyn Gant at 7:30 p.m. from Water Street Yard Warren. A novel stern drive diesel propulsion and 75 ton hold, plus a Hustad controllable pitch propeller, ice water spray, neoprene deck cover, and hydraulic boom will aid offshore fishing.
