Care of Silk and Wool Hosiery in Daily Use
Hosiery should be washed after each day of use to extend life of silk and wool. Use tepid to cool water with mild white soap, avoid harsh home-made soap, and soften hard water with borax. Wash gently without rubbing, rinse in lukewarm water, and squeeze out water without twisting. A free booklet on care of delicate fabrics is available from the National Household Service.
