20th Anniversary of Union Church on Prudence Island
Prudence Island marked the 20th anniversary of Union Church with special services over the weekend. A simple frame church on the hill above Homestead wharf was built by an interdenominational group on part of the Cram property after talks between Sydney A. Davidson and James T. McCaughey during a berrying trip. The Rev Richard K. Morton delivered the anniversary sermon urging inner temples within people, not grand buildings. Captain Halsey Chase led a quahang supper, followed by remarks by Rev H Glenn Payne about aiding famine relief efforts aboard a cattle boat to Europe.
