About 300 invitations issued to drum corps in New England and New York. Competition begins around 7 p m under floodlights, aided by the Portuguese Independent Club and Band of Bristol.

The Kingsmen N Y Fund seeks 750 for the Kingsmen Bugle and Drum Corps to attend the American Legion National Convention in New York City from August 23 to 27, 1952. Donations may be sent to Phoenix Office or Suzman’s store, or given to corps members or the committee. Previous acknowledgments include Manuel Sousa 1.00 and Sybil Person a 12.00. A Bristol based Battery C unit of the 243rd AAA Gun Battalion has won the indoor rifle firing championship for all Guard units in New England New York and New Jersey. Captain Cortlandt Clarke led the team with M Sgt Gabriel J Savino SFC William H Gablinske SFC Alfred S Rybka SFC Michael B Topazio and Sgt William R Burbridge. Each member receives a medal and the unit a plaque. The June NRA tournament determined the winner.
Recreation Director Anthony Agatiello announces the committee selecting top prizes for dogs and cats plus unusual entries, smallest and largest pets, and Best in Show. Bristol playground staff run the event at 2 p.m. on the common with tickets required by Thursday for the August 14 Boston Red Sox trip.
Bristol native John L Rego formerly head of the Howard State Farm was named Rhode Island state director of agriculture and conservation by Governor Dennis J Roberts to replace Francis S Leaver. Rego born September 17 1908 has led Rhode Island Holstein work and held multiple farm posts at Howard State Farm before this appointment.
