Four Bristol students were among 452 Bryant College of Business Administration graduates at the 89th commencement in Veterans Memorial Auditorium. Joseph Cabral earned a bachelor of science in business. Vivian Fojo Dorothy Arruda and Bernice Callan received diplomas in secretarial science. Miss Arruda won the Golden Key and Miss Fojo was on the dean's list. U.S. Senator Paul Douglas gave the principal address.
Fr Joseph Sorzana pastor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish announced the annual outing at St Columbans Seminary grounds drew about 3000 attendees and was the most successful yet He thanked assistants Rev Emy De Mattia Joseph Vorro and the committee noting prize winners include Joseph Palma Joseph Del Toro Joseph Arouca the De Paolo family and James Sylvester.

More than 150 rubber workers from shops across New England converge on Kingston Rhode Island for a three day union education institute. Members from locals 220 and 339 in Bristol will attend the weekend school held with the University of Rhode Island extension division.

Civil Defense Director Gordon L. Fleming resigns as head of the Ground Observer Corps post in Bristol Veterans Home to devote full attention to GOC operations. He cites three resignations and inability to replace staff, leaves post under supervision of council until a successor is appointed. Fleming calls 24 hour spotting the most important active defense duty and asks to remain as supervisor if the new CD chief agrees.
The Narragansett Electric Company announces preliminary work on customers appliances starting about August 11 as part of bringing natural gas to Warren and Bristol. John D. Moore confirms preparations by Conversions and Surveys Inc to enlarge burner parts and limit service outages before final changeover.
The Bristol Junior Chamber of Commerce met to announce a fall Bristol Booklet with town history and a service directory. It endorsed new industrial areas by the planning and zoning boards to attract business, with hearings on Gooding Avenue behind St. Mary’s Cemetery possibly rezoning land to Industrial H. A TV show on ICC work will be sponsored in September. Edward Medeiros became membership chairman and a September drive was set. Alvin Koenig became corresponding secretary.
Bristol town council postponed action on ending rent controls by directing a committee to study the issue and report by September 30. Captain Paul Herzig to chair hearings if needed, with findings due at the September meeting. Residents urged relief from fire and water facilities problems on Park Shores and Coggeshall Avenue.
Kearney Post American Legion Junior baseball team edged West Warwick 4 to 2 in game one of the best two out of three state final at Cranston Stadium. Gene Furtado allowed three hits with 7 strikeouts, while Ernie Gifford fanned 12 for West Warwick. Al Grande and John Andrade contributed early as Kearney struck first inning.

The Bristol All-Stars defeated Fox Point East Side 11 to 2 at Pierce Memorial Field East Providence to reach the state semifinal. They advance to Woonsocket to face Fairworth at 5 30 PM with a potential Sunday final against Smith Hill Wanskuck or Westerly. Pete Natale powered Bristol with two homers a double and a single while Butch Carlson pitched five hits and two runs. Local fans numbered over 200 as Bristol celebrated the win.
Annarummo walked and Cordeiro forced Grande at the plate. Andrade scored on Pete Dugan's single through third and two more crossed on Ed Callandra's single to left. Manager Ruggiero thanks the Boy Scouts for the bus transport to Cranston.
