Ends Of Train Passenger Service Predicted At Public Hearing

Bristol County residents attended a Providence hearing where officials of the New Haven Railroad announced plans to abandon all passenger service on the Providence Warren and Bristol line. The railroad argued fares and other services would be cut, while Bristol officials pressed for justification of continuing freight at a loss.

Mt Carmel parishioners plan charity fund drive

Fire truck and train collide near Ever Ready station

A New Haven Railroad train struck an American LaFrance fire engine in front of the Ever Ready station on Thames Street shortly after 5 PM yesterday. The collision damaged the train, fire truck, and a delivery truck. Minor injuries were reported to several workers. investigators questioned the motorman John H Lackey and driver Louis Cirillo as a brush fire near Reservoir Avenue was suppressed.
