No Fire Just Smoke From Salvage Shop Blaze
Downtown Bristol was blanketed by thick smoke last night from a salvage shop on Gooding Ave, not a major fire. Cars gathered as salvage material, including plastic coated wire and cable, burned. A Roma St fire alarm had people fearing a blaze, but investigators found no serious fire.

Forgery Arrest in Warren Court Arraignment
Arthur G. Davis aged 43 of 37 Solman Street Providence pleaded not guilty at a special arraignment in Fifth District Court Warren before Judge James Linehan on forgery and check alteration charges. He posted $300 bail on each count and a May 19 trial was set. Davis was taken into custody yesterday at the R I Hospital Trust Co branch in town.

Bristol GOP urges full time town administrator in charter
Officials of the Republican Town Committee pressed for appointing a full time town administrator rather than electing a strong mayor as Bristol drafts its charter. Howard Brelsford outlined five recommendations including consolidating departments, creating a central purchasing office, and a town treasurer and school committee role.
