Bristol County Water seeks higher rates for service

The Bristol County Water Company announced plans to file a new rate schedule with the Administrator to cover rising costs and investments. Manager Charles P. Rogers said average residential bills would rise to about 5.35 per month from 4.50, reflecting increases since 1958 and 1959. The company notes investments have grown from 4 million to 5.2 million as customers increased from 8,270 to 10,786 while service standards remain high.

New Budget Sets Tax Increase at About 8.50 Per Thousand

The town council and budget commission approve a budget with an about 8.50 per thousand tax rise from a current rate of 43.10. Total budget amounting to 4,077,466.27 includes Operating 3,606,286, Debt Service 347,471.27, Capital Outlay 71,898, Special Resolutions 51,?0. Capital items include roads, snow plows, pumping station, and sewer updates. Local taxation will raise 2,909,377.30.

Democrats Plan Charter Reforms For Bristol Town

Anthony F. Principe, Bristol Democratic Town Committee chair, outlined a 12 point charter program. Proposals include a full time executive, a widely empowered mayor elected by residents, retention of the financial town meeting, combining several offices, eliminating the town engineer, appointing a building inspector, and a budget submitted for annual approval. Elections would stay partisan with November ballots to maximize turnout. Page 21.
