Rhode Island Farm Program Funds Soil Building Practices
The U S Department of Agriculture and Rhode Island Farm Bureau outline a state plan under the National Soil Conservation program. Payments assist farmers with soil building actions such as permanent pastures, legume seeding, green manures, hay land fertilizing, lime use, and planting forest trees, with rates per acre and certification requirements. Eligible farmers may receive funds for shifting from soil depleting to soil conserving crops, based on acreage and productivity.
