Bristol Town Council Approves Mt Hope Sewer and Daylight Saving

The Bristol Town Council unanimously authorized immediate excavation for the Mt Hope Avenue sewer extension with a $20,000 appropriation, planning to use Bristol labor where possible. The council also adopted daylight saving time and approved multiple licenses, parades, sidewalk work, and community events.

Brush Fire Threatens Soldiers' Home Area

A brush fire on the Leahy farm north of the Soldiers' Home burned about 2 acres on Wednesday near noon. Firemen from the 39th district fought the flames for three hours after an alarm at 12 30 aiming to save several buildings at the Soldiers' Home.

Under Martha D. Gardner's will, Emma B. Beaton administers bequests to the Children's Home 1000, Home for Aged Women 1000, Rogers Free Library 500, and a James Diman fund 2000 for aid to aged poor. Income from residue previously went to Briffens and Stanton. Sarah Bradford held it until her death.

Salvation Army Drive Progressing In Town Broadside

C D Rodway reports a satisfactory Salvation Army drive with private subscriptions rising. Three official canvassers will begin Monday and carry credentials in a small book signed by commanding officers. A band concert by Providence Silver Band, postponed from Easter Day, will now take place Sunday April 27 at Pastime Theatre from four to five.

Keds Division Returns to Four Day Schedule Next Week

The Keds Division of the National India Rubber Company resumes a four day week, making up four lost days from March. On factory council request, Friday April 25 will be worked instead of Monday April 21. The Wire Division offices and departments will operate Monday April 21.

French Club Plans May Walk at High School

Le Cercle Francais held a Tuesday meeting at the High School. A May walk is planned for the first week of May with Miss Ethel Robinson Miss Marguerite Booth Sidney Makowsky and Leo Nussenfeld arranging details. A poem by Gertrude Grice an essay by Theresa Peters and a piano piece by Margaret Kennedy were presented.

Pleasing French Music Recital at Trinity Church

A recital for Trinity Church benefit will be held next Tuesday evening in the Parish House. Miss Helen W. Church organized the program featuring mezzo-soprano Miss Marie Jeanne Fauteux with accompanist Miss Yvonne Gallipeau and violin selections by Miss Alice Merchant, with Miss Julia Merchant as pianist.

Man arraigned on knife assault with $1000 bail

Joseph Carreia Silva was arrested at his Bay View home Monday night and arraigned before Justice Philip Brady at the county jail on a knife assault charge against William Francis. Silva pled not guilty. case continued to the Fifth District Court. Bail was set at $1000 and posted by Francisco P. Sotel.

Town Officers Warn on Danish Lottery Letters

Chief of Police Hugh F. Kelley notes several residents received circulars promoting a Danish lottery. The letters were presented at Hamburg. No local resident has fallen for the scam as of now.
