Batters take turns at the plate in Bristol as Little League practices for Opening Day May 1. The league expands to four new teams after last year’s state champion All-Star success, per president Jerry.
The School Department faces a potential deficit of about 369 000 dollars in the tentative 1977 78 budget if cuts urged by Town Administrator Agatiello stand. Superintendent Travers warns of a near million dollar impact, with salaries comprising 87 percent of the budget and contracts hindering personnel reductions.
A Bristol delegation including the town administrator solicitor engineer and community development director traveled to Providence to appeal a December Health Dept decision to close Mint Farm Landfill. Hearing officer Anthony DelGuidice said a final decision will come later. The town disputes pollution findings linking the site to a nearby brook feeding Mt Hope Bay and notes measures taken such as grading standing water and an earthen dam. A transfer station in Warren with federal funds is under study.
The Bristol School Committee voted unanimously to rescind controversial ground rules that limited audience participation at meetings. Adopted January 19, the rules allowed a discussion period only before business and blocked action on audience views, moving ahead with the agenda without interruptions.
