Brooder Temperatures for Baby Chicks
Poultry expert notes from Professor Paul G Riley on brooders recommends about 85 degrees as a comfortable baseline for newborn chicks. Traditional advice using coal or oil stoves suggests starting at 95 degrees with a thermometer placed near the hover edge two inches above the floor.
Managing Chick Temperature as They Grow
As chicks age they need less heat and the stove temperature must be lowered so the inner edge of the circle stays about a foot from the hover edge. Caretakers must watch and adjust to prevent the birds from piling up, which occurs when too hot or too cold. Incorrect temps cause crowding, poor feathering, slow growth and high mortality.
Anderson Nominated Chief Engineer In City Fire Hall Vote
Robert J. Anderson former Hydraulion foreman was elected Chief Engineer of the fire department by a Town Council vote of three to two over incumbent John Grabert who had eight years as chief. Four assistant engineers were chosen from the four fire company nominations, with other municipal actions about special constables fencing and road projects discussed.
