Hist Society Opens New Bristol HQ May 3

The Historical Society plans the opening of its new Bristol headquarters on May 3 after extensive renovations of the former Bristol County Jar building on Cattrt Street. The annual meeting is set for April 20 at St Michael's Parish with officer reports and election. Rhus part of the program includes a lecture by Louise H. DeWollé on Ida Tarbell and Lincoln’s Sesquicentennial observance.

Preston Moore to Visit Rhode Island Legion April 14

National commander Preston Moore of Stillwater Oklahoma will visit Rhode Island on Tuesday April 14 meeting Legion posts in Bristol Providence and Kingston He will autograph the national commander wall at Kearney Post and lay wreaths at St Marys Cemetery Bastol and Swan Point Cemetery The visit includes a testimonial dinner at Johnsons Hummocks Allens Point and the Rhode Island Veteran's Home stop with local Legion leaders coordinating events.

Bristol YMCA Day Camp Girls Gain Shelter Funding

The Bristol Junior Womans Club funds a shelter to improve the six week Bristol YMCA day camp on Hog Island. Girls attend three of five years with growing numbers while last year nearly 150 children joined. Camp fees cover basic costs but need support for improvements and extra activities. The club seeks donations and asks for support for the King Neptune contestants and a large turnout for an April 16 17 18 event.

Polio Shot In Arm Clinic Proves Huge Success

The Jaycees sponsored polio inoculation clinic dubbed Project Polio held last Saturday. Over 100 people inoculated in the first hour, Dr J G Cast Ronove led the vaccination with assist from registered nurses Mrs Virginia McCaw Mrs George McCarthy and Mrs Agnes Sullivan. By 4 pm 294 people had received shots, many first time recipients. The next clinic is April 25 at Andrews Gym at 10 am with no registration required.

Library To Open April 26 In Rogers

The Rogers Free Library will open Sunday afternoon April 26 with brief exercises and an invitation for patrons to visit the new building. Tentative hours are 2 to 4 pm. Landscaping remains to be completed by opening while construction advances. The project total costs reached about 130000 with 3000 approved by voters December 29 and a 26500 land gift from Norman Herreshoff aiding fundraising.

Leaguers Hold Orpen House Open House

The King Philip Little League invites all registered boys ages 8 to 12 and their parents to an open house Friday at 7 pm in the YMCA building. The program includes speaking and entertainment, plus a graduation for boys over 12 no longer in Little League.
