Reed Thomas H. Reed longtime Bloomington resident dies at 83

Thomas H. Reed a former French Grove resident died in Bloomington June 16 1938 after a May 12 stroke. Born May 30 1855 in West Liberty West Virginia he moved with parents to Peoria county in 1856 married Suzie Burgess in 1875 to move to Bloomington in 1885. He worked with Chicago and Alton railroad until 1931 and served as McLean County deputy sheriff for six years. Surviving are his wife four children two in Bloomington two in Chicago five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Camp Shaubena Announces Three Girls Camp Periods

The Camp Shaubena Committee selects strong executive staff for three girls camp periods this year. Mrs. Maltby will serve as camp mother and Miss Leona Nelson will lead the waterfront. Village History of Brimfield to Be Published Soon

Brimfield residents and descendants will soon see a serialized history of the village. Compiled from court records, newspaper columns, and old ledgers, the work was prepared by Henrietta Memler as a Master of Arts thesis at the University of Minnesota. Readers can subscribe to receive the first chapter now and later a possible book edition.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hanson of Bloomington spent Saturday night at the Clarence Beidernbeck home. Dale Smith of near West Jersey and Legh Beamer spent a couple of days last week in Des Moines, Iowa, Mrs. Harriet Reed returned here to her home Friday after spending a couple of weeks in Toulon visiting her sister and friends. Mrs. W. B. Beauchamp returned home Tuesday morning after opening three weeks at Hot Springs, Ark., and one week in Tulsa, Ohio., at the home of her son Merle Carter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Symmonds and baby were Sunday visitors with their folks Mr. and Mrs. Homer Symmonds and Mrs. Mary Miller. Mrs. Symmonds and baby stayed for longer visit.

School Band Expansion and 4-H Camp Honors

Director McInnis reports the school band gained several new players boosting the bassoon and clarinet sections while Rolland Caay joined the trombone section for a near record size. Lois Barrett and another Peoria girl were honored at the Illinois 4-H Camp Institute and will lead Peoria’s August camp at Lake Bloomington.

Chamberlain Cousins Enjoy Sunday Picnic

About forty relatives gathered at the historic Chamberlain home Sunday afternoon to honor Dr. and Mrs. Clifford Smith and son Robert of DeKalb. The day featured visiting, games, and a grand basket dinner on the lawn, with many local families attending from Peoria Yates City and Trivoli. Lorin Trowbridge was high bidder at the L. O. Pulsipher farm sale, the two parcels selling for 14777.00 to settle the estate, averaging 118 per acre.
